Critical Thinking
Your Critical Thinking toolkit
Critical thinking is needed everywhere. Especially now. There is a lot of information coming at us, and not all of it is well intended, true, reliable, even if the person saying it believes what they say. Fortunately we have good guides, starting with Mr. Socrates himself, who gives us the questions to get beyond the generalisations, distortions, unfounded beliefs, assumptions, narratives, emotional manipulation and sophistry coming our way. This will help you keep your feet on the ground, stay sane, and increase your chances of making good decisions based on reality.

I found the Critical Thinking course to be very well delivered. The instructor was excellent — clear, engaging, and able to explain the concepts in a way that was easy to follow and apply.
A very balanced course with just enough theory, practice and follow-up discussion. The subject at hand is a complex, even at times abstract, but the presenter Lawrence Whelehan dealt with it in a way that can greatly improve our approach to it at a practical level. It was enjoyable too.

Very useful training. The presentation was comprehensive and entertaining, and we received inspiration to apply what we learned in our daily jobs (or life). Good mix of presentation and exercises.

My law background helps with this training, since civil and criminal law intend to be based on evidence. Not everything that’s said is true. People’s memories are not always reliable. We have 150 or so cognitive biases. This means we are all interpreting the limited parts of the world that we get to see, forming beliefs and stories around that. This will always be true, even once you've understood how critical thinking works. It's true for me as the trainer and knowing that helps me take a step back, have some humility, and not jump into unnecessary arguments.
Critical Thinking gives me a set of tools and questions to ask when someone tries to convince me of something. It helps me be tolerant of others’ points of view and to listen more deeply. It helps me diffuse arguments when I see them emerging in front of me. I see critical thinking as a kind of mental and verbal self-defence.
